It is taken that all instructors have obtained senior first aid training and hold a current certificate. Some people may have already obtained a Blue Card (police check / cleared to work with children), weapons license and or CPI registration in addition to qualifications and this is really good to hear. Our industry is crying out for more recognition from government, the corporate sector and the community. Know one knows what is the best way to go but we will give you are few suggestions further on. Some industry professionals do not want to change the way they have happily done things for years. Some industry bodies try to force instructors to adhere to a certain training process for a monetary benefits or because it is too hard to change their thinking or even because they may have to give up their power. Isn't it best to do what is right for the industry, what is more professional, what will help expand our industry and help an instructor's career.
From our experience with asking our members and the industry in general this is a rough break down on what instructors are doing currently.
35% have not sort to obtain any nationally recognized training (NCAS, Certification or higher)
20% have followed the NCAS process
40% now follow the Certificate process
5% follow the University process
We have also found a great deal of overlap between NCAS and Certification qualifications. It seems that more and more instructors are opting for the Certification process over any other methods.
Why is it so? Find out for yourself, do your own home work and ask other people don't just take our point of view. Everyone course provider will steer you in their direction but once the pathway is very clear to me. Some of the skills and knowledge you accumulate from attending these courses is very important and beneficial.
However some courses have greater outcomes and the graduate will hold more weight in the industry. I'm just going to tell you what I have done and how it works for me. I did the certificate courses in sports coaching and assessment /workplace training and gained a couple of qualifications. I continue to study the material to keep improving my skills, deliver training packages for my own groups and facilitate for registered training orginasations (RTO).

Credibility is essential in our industry, as martial art instructors need to be professional and qualified /certified in the eyes of the government, the corporate sector and to the general community. This is vital for the continued growth of our industry and of course the longevity of an instructors' school. The IMA has consulted with various industry bodies to be able to offer instructors a certification that will assist them in the sustainability of their school, (including obtaining cheaper insurance).
