ZEN MARTIAL ARTS COLLEGE
Monitoring your progress The college prides itself on offering the very best in tuition by sourcing the very best masters / trainers from around the world. The course material is equally as important as is our monitoring of your progress.
The general practice of our classes are to first strengthen and flex your body then to condition it to perform the various martial arts moves.
You will then build coordination, balance and control over your body an important step before you work with a partner to deliver various strikes and blocking techniques.
The Shaolin forms are a very important part of training as they increase your health and fitness at a rapid pace. Not only are the forms practical for self defence but the moves massage internal organs increasing blood and chi flow through the body. The Chinese philosophy is that sickness and disease is brought upon by blockages of chi. Traditional martial arts moves increase chi, thus promoting a longer, healthy and more productive life.
After you have attained a certain level of competency you will apply these moves on a partner to learn better distance and timing. You will also feel the effectiveness of your techniques and build greater confidence.
To test your impact and stability it is important to apply your strikes into punching bags/shields. With hand held equipment you can add moving targets teaching you how to apply effective power, speed and accuracy.
Many people select martial arts over other sports because it applies fitness with more meaning that is you get self defence too. You will be taught verbal and non violent strategies to defuse potentially dangerous conflicts. Awareness training to avoid conflict is the most important part of self defence and a unique part of our training.
Weapons training are often practised for the additional coordination and focus development rather than for combat. The college teaches both ways using 18 traditional Chinese weapons and street weapons like knives and baton to meet the survival needs of our community.
There are three main areas of traditional martial arts:
1. Strength and conditioning for better health for oneself
2. Combative training to protect oneself
3. Treating other people's illnesses and reviving people who have been hit (by you or someone else)
Many people neglect the third part of traditional martial arts but we believe all parts should be learnt.
